Mermaid Nuno Felted and Shibori Dyed Tunic Top

As I was making this, I thought all the texture reminded me of a sea creature with tentacles or a mermaid with scales and long, flowy hair.  So I decided that after I finished felting it, it would be perfect dyed light blue with an over dye of grays and browns to make it look like a sunken treasure that was pulled from the sea.

This is made all is one piece with no sewing and no seams.

I made this top using a resist.  I placed a layer of silk gauze on the resist and then a layer of white wool merino roving and then layered it with various textures.  Cute little pocket on the side.

I dyed it a very light blue using the microwave oven as the heat source.  After that I soaked it in iron water and then wrapped it and shibori felted it in a pot of eucalyptus leaves.

You can see all the texture from the shirbori wrap on the back of the tunic top.

I love all the texture and the colors.
